People ask me a lot of questions about my adoption. I am hoping to write daily posts about adoption on my blog.
I have kept my adoption plans mostly secret for the last few years. A handful of you knew. So when I announced it on Facebook in December and January, you likely were a little shocked by it. And then the fundraising started.
I've actually known that I wanted to adopt Kabaale from the first time I saw him in October. I still had my homestudy and dossier to put together, but seeing his face made me want to adopt him. Have you ever felt connected to someone before you've ever met the person? Well, that is Kabaale and I.
In January of this year, about two weeks ago, I contacted the agency who said that they would put him "on hold" for me while I did my homestudy and the paperwork. However, they told me on the 15th of January that I needed to send them the $9000 very quickly to keep him on old.
That is why I have turned to my friends, family, and online social media community to help me. I realize that $9000 is a lot of money. I have been scrimping and saving for several years to pay off my old debts---including $21,000 in student loans in a year and a half---building my credit to buy a house and ultimately adopt a child... While helping my parents at times who struggle financially... and as of September 2013, I work three jobs!
My goal is to raise the $9000 by March 7th which is Kabaale's birthday. I'd love to have him officially on hold with me as his birthday present.
Children his age have about a 1% chance of being adopted. A four year old child in a third world country is usually considered unwanted and unadoptable. There is an agency in Utah who will not even refer children older than the age of 4 as available children. Kabaale is nearly 5!
Anything you can raise is wonderful. Raise awareness of Kabaale's life and my hope to adopt him. Tell your online facebook friends. Tell your family. Tell your neighbors.
Kabaale might not be wanted by most in the adoption community who prefer little babies and tiny toddlers, but I want him.
