About a week ago, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that an old friend of mine from New Jersey, Fran, would be having an adoption fundraising bake-sale.
I have never done one of these before and wasn't sure what to expect. I actually had a goal of 50-100 dollars. Honestly, that was my goal. I didn't think bakesales would sell exceptionally well but I wasn't aware enough to really know what to expect.
I made some dinner rolls and brought a handful of jams. I was running errands on Saturday morning and arrived about an hour after the bake-sale started as I had to drive from Sugarhouse to Layton. When I arrived, Fran and I hugged (it has been a while since I've been able to see her) and she said excitedly "We've done really well!"
When she said that, I said "Really?" expecting her to say something around the previous stated goal amount. However, she was already well beyond doubling the high-end of my goal.
I brought flyers which we passed around to the people buying things, including a few extras. Many of them had questions about the adoption process, Kabaale himself, Uganda, etc.
At the end of the bakesale, Fran had raised nearly $300.
Very amazing Saturday. And I am definitely convinced that I will be having another bake-sale in the future, likely combined with my yard sale plans in the new house.
