When I was leaving work and walking to my car this afternoon I saw a moth on the wall of the stairwell. The parking garage is underground, isolated, and has multiple doors before reaching the outdoors.
I am not sure how the moth got in there.
Lying on the ground a few feet away was a dead moth.
I knew that leaving that moth there was a death sentence. It was odd that two moths would have found their way inside once, let alone then to find their way out.
I scooped the still alive moth into my hand, turned on my car, and as I left the parking garage I opened the window and let him out. He flew to my side mirror, slid under the glass, and rode his way home to Taylorsville hidden. I imagine that now he has left his hiding place.
Some might ask why I would save a moth of all creatures... such a small insigificant thing which no one would miss should it die.
But I know, that for me, I have a strong will to live. If that moth felt the same, I would want him or her to also have a chance to thrive.
I also thought... "Don't we all feel trapped like this moth sometimes?"
Don't we all wish we could have a helper who would assist us when we're trapped in an almost-inescapable situation?
So thats why I carried a moth down nearly three flights of stairs, into my car, and then out my window. I bet I made that moth pretty happy.
