Most people who know me, know that I have a dog. His name is Prince Caspian but goes by Prince.
He is a Staffordshire terrier-beagle mix. I don't think he looks like a pitbull but many say he is. A staffordshire terrier is a cousin of the pitbull. He's short and stocky like a staffie with a long body like a beagle. I honestly doubt the pregnancy was planned, but I love Prince.
I adopted him at age 13 months from the humane society. When I call him a gentle dog, it really is true. When I found him, I did the tests on behavior such as grabbing his ears and pinching the skin between his toes. He didn't react at all---which is mostly surprising since I later learned he had a nasty ear infection. He really is well-behaved (minus the begging, whining for walks, and the occasional escape from my yard!
Some people ask what it will be like to have Prince around a child from Uganda. Honestly, I don't think it will be an issue. He generally ignores children completely as if they don't exist. He prefers adult company but loves that kids have sticky sugary hands and food they'll drop for him. I honestly think he will do really well with the adoption. He'll just be jealous for a while that the kid gets attention. So I might end up getting a puppy once I'm settled into my new life because I think he will really appreciate some canine companionship.
So while I AM pursuing an adoption in Uganda, I already have adopted---but this eldest child of mine doesn't speak and walks on all fours.
